Kinetic work from Toni Burgering (1936-2017). Toni Burgering is a Dutch sculptor, installer and lighting designer. This work, one of the first made by the artist in neon, is composed of stainless steel, plexiglass and neon lighting. Dimensions L76 x H76 x P18 cm. Probably work done at the beginning of the 1970s. Toni Burgering was fascinated by American culture: their consumer society, advertising, space exploration, eroticism and sex, as well as pop music will play a big role in his inspiration. He will make several trips to the USA and meet Andy Warhol. He found success when in 1970 the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam bought a work from him. From that time on, many works entered private collections. In the 1970s, the city of Rotterdam commissioned about ten works in neon that he named “ light objects “. Today some of them are still visible in the urban landscape. For years Toni Burgering worked on the project to wrap the Euromast in Rotterdam with a huge pink neon shaped «cotton candy» , unfortunately due to lack of sponsors the project will never succeed.
